The toxicity of corticosteroids has led to efforts to identify alternative or adjunctive treatments that reduce exposure to these drugs in patients with giant cell arteritis or polymyalgia rheumatica. One such treatment is known as glucosamine, a synthetic amino acid, made from collagen or gelatin, corticosteroids side effects. Glucosamine is thought to decrease the formation of collagen by blocking its uptake by cells (2) and reducing the production of proteases that reduce collagen structure (3). The results from research with rodents suggest that glucosamine reduces growth of giant cells (4), drugs corticosteroids. There is evidence that glucosamine may help reduce the appearance of granulomas (5-7), but these have not yet been reported in humans. We evaluated glucosamine's effect on collagen-degrading proteases in human giant cell arteritis using a large patient and animal data set (1%/week) with a median of 3.7 years of treatment. At 4 years, 70% of patients had resolved or significantly reduced the severity of giant cell arteritis, which was considered good with a minimum need for surgical intervention of 4 years (fig, corticosteroid drugs dose. S1), corticosteroid drugs dose. We also evaluated the effect of glucosamine to reduce scar tissue with a large patient and animal data set (1% /week) and compared this to the effect of interferon before and after therapy with 50 mg/day of prednisone in individuals with severe giant cell arteritis (8), oral corticosteroids philippines. We found no difference in scar reduction between treatments (fig. S2). However, interferon had no effect on collagen type-5 fragmentation, which is thought to increase the probability of scarring (9, 10), oral corticosteroids philippines. There is insufficient evidence about interferon's effect on collagen-degrading proteases. But there is evidence from experiments with monkeys that interferon and glucosamine work for preventing the expression of α1-chain amyloid peptides in giant cells, which is one of the hallmarks of giant cell arteritis, corticosteroids drugs. Pelvic Floor Functioning, Bone Healing Rates, or Other Complicated Health Issues We found that glucosamine reduced growth of bone tissue (11-16). This may be because glucosamine reduces the availability of collagen-degrading proteases in the small intestine (12, 13). This may also explain why patients who have a larger volume of collagen-degrading proteases in their intestinal tract (12) have a better chance of being cured of small intestine colitis than those who have fewer proteases (14), high school age. The effect of glucosamine on bone growth is particularly important for large individuals (16, 17).
